Ellie Evans

http://www.selvedge.org/shop/ellie-evans

Ellie Evans pink cushions are made up of lots of different patterned patches. They combine digitally printed remnants and vintage fabrics. I like the mix of prints she has used. As they are remnants, the fabric she uses changes all the time. I also like that she has embroidered her initials onto them, nice little touch.

I then went onto her website to look at some of her other work. Here are a few commissions that intrigued me.

She creates precious, personal keepsakes from old documents, postcards, photographs and artifacts, to celebrate occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays and to remember loved ones.

I found this post on printpattern.blogspot.co.uk.
I love how the designer has mixed woodland animals with bold block colours. Love the colour scheme, especially the duck egg blue frogs. I think the design has a childlike feel but it would also be suitable for young adults.

Buttercups and Clover

buttercups and clover

'A scrumptious range combining beautiful hand stitched flowers, vintage papers, fabrics, patterned ribbons and braids.  Cute stitched birds & dogs bring life to the designs and individual paper letters give a hand crafted look.
Shaped buttons, embroidered daisies and sparkly gems are used to hand finish the cards.'

I love this range. I found the range cards in paperchase whilst researching for my shop report. I love the mixture of prints creating a collage effect. I also like buttons used to embellish, the odd letters and the quirky little illustrations.
Some of my favourite designs are below.

Tamar Mogendorff

Recognized for her original stitch creations, Tamar Mogendorff is an artist and designer residing in Brooklyn, New York. Tamar’s one-of-a-kind "soft sculptures" have inspired fantasy narratives for children and an aesthetic appreciation for adults.

"Using thousand and thousand of fabrics and threads to create her ideas in her Brooklyn workshop, Tamar Mogendorff's world is populated with swans, bears and mushrooms carefully made by her fairy fingers. The originality of her creations is in the choice and assembly of the fabrics from gaudy to the precious, the subtle or solid."

I first found Tamar Mogendorff's work at college whilst researching artists for a project which was 'natural ornamentation'.

Own picture - Page from past sketchbook with different techniques and Tamar Mogendorff artist research

I love the printed fabrics used on these bird houses and how she has used sequins to embellish the birds, i feel it gives them another decorative element.

Scout & Co is a kids lifestyle boutique. Stocking a variety of clothes, accessories, decor, toys and gifts from a range of different brands. The items are unique and a lot different from what you would find on the high street.

Ferm Living

Ferm Living - kite mobile Ferm Living - kite mobile
This baby mobile from Ferm living has cute little illustrations of animals, bows, clouds, a plane and a kite.
I really like the contemporary feel of this mobile.
I feel that the colour scheme used gives the mobile a more sophisticated look, rather than just going with pink and blue for girls and boys.

These little sock gift sets from Petites Pattes are so cute and quirky. I think It looks like the faces have been embroidered onto the socks but it is just part of the design.

I found a small article in Mollie Makes issue 36 on Scout & Co and then went to the website to check it out.

Rocking Horse Cushions

http://www.made.com/collection/treasured-collection/rocking-horse-square-scatter-cushion-45-x-45cm-rich-grey

These rocking horse cushions, designed by Tanya Ventress, have a vintage feel to them. She takes traditional subjects and chooses a theme and then creates products in a contemporary way. I also think the screen prints are quite childlike and have a nostalgic theme. Lots of bold block colours make the cushions eye catching.
Tanya studied Textiles and Surface design at CCAD, you can check out her blog here! :)

Kaleidoscope

These Kaleidoscope cushion's have been designed by emerging talent Josie Shenoy. They are digitally printed and have a mirrored concept. I like the choice of colours used and the patterns. These cushions would make great scatter cushions for a bed or sofa.

Design development

A few pictures from testing out mixing dye colours and heat transferring yesterday.
The heat transfer prints didn't turn out too good, the colours were too pale so i will have to try out some other techniques to try and get the effects that I want.
