Stephen Wright Workshop

Here are some images from our 'sculpture' :')... from the first week back at uni!

‘Tunnel of Life’

-         We started off wanting to make a chandelier which then turned into a series of mobiles which then turned into an installation in which people were asked to walk through.

‘ As you walk through the sculptures represent different ages, the more free flowing shapes like the paper chains, paper planes and snowflakes show the younger ages in life where you would create these things in nursery and school.

The more sophisticated and structural shapes such as the spiral hangings and abstract cubes show how we mature!’

-         We all agreed that yesterday’s workshop was really childlike so we decided to carry on with the nave vibe.

-         Paper Planes represent the journey of travelling through life but the shapes are also playful and childlike.

-         Paper chains are also childlike but they represent celebrations such as birthdays and Christmas.

-         The cubes represent growing up as they look like building blocks but they are also quite mature looking and sophisticated.

-         The paper spirals are also quite sophisticated and they represent life as it is a continuing spiral of events.

Paper Mache

For my 3rd 3D drawing i tried out paper mache again to create the bottle. I then used watercolours, tracing paper, felt tips, biro and fine liner to create the label. First I tried to make the bottle using acetate which would have made the 3D drawing look more realistic but as it was hard to manipulate I resorted to paper mache.

Miladi thread fan

The second 3D drawing I decided to make was a bigger version of this vintage Miladi thread fan. first I enlarged one of the threads on the photocopier. Then created the threads using ticket card which i painted and added the text using watercolors and fine liner. I then wrapped the thread cards with embroidery threads. To add the colour to the back of the threads I used a teabag to stain them to create an aged look.
I am pleased with how this has turned out and think this could make a very interesting cushion!

Vintage Perfume Box

I love this vintage perfume box. I have opened up the box, photocopied and enlarged it.
I am going to try and create a 3D drawing of the box.

Postcard

The first 3D drawing I chose to make was a postcard. To create this I drew the writing onto tracing paper. I then used ticket card and coloured it with watercolour paints. Then I stuck the tracing paper to the ticket card. I think this has turned out well :) (although the stamp could have been better!)

Vintage

Last project of the year!
The theme is vintage and following this theme I will produce 2 coordinating cushions.
We have two weeks to produce three 3D drawings and to start our sketchbooks before the construction workshops and making samples.

Here are some of the items I have chosen to look at.

Design Development

A few examples of my design development, playing around positioning 3D paper flowers and 2D flower drawings, photocopied from my sketchbook pinned onto a mannequin.
